Where common sense comes from…
Common sense is highly valued in our society, and something that Shortcuts use when they don’t know the textbook answer. The term common sense comes from the “sense of the commons”, or more precisely the sense of the majority. The famous Nordstrom department store became legendary for its use and value of common sense.

Its first rule book contained only the following: “Welcome to Nordstrom. We’re glad to have you with our Company. Our number one goal is to provide outstanding customer service. Set both your personal and professional goals high. We have great confidence in your ability to achieve them.

Nordstrom Rules: Rule #1: Use good judgment in all situations. There will be no additional rules. Please feel free to ask your department manager, store manager, or division general manager any question at any time.”
