For Scott Halford, the word “shortcut” has more than one meaning.

In his new book, “Be a Shortcut: The Secret Fast Track to Business Success” (John Wiley & Sons Inc., $24.95), Halford says a shortcut is a go-to person for other colleagues, and one who brings value to a company by being likable, trustworthy and efficient.

Shortcuts are essential for a successful business, he said.

“We are so incredibly overwhelmed with things we have to do in order to just be average that [businesses] can’t do it all alone anymore, so we need shortcuts – people who are go-to resources who know how to get [projects] done without an attitude,” says Halford, founder of Denver-based Complete Intelligence LLC, a group of advisers who talk to companies about business strategies.
